Langkawi welcomes International Tourists since Nov 15

The pandemic has really changed the way people are living their normal lives. It has closed many borders, many opportunities, and taken the livelihood of many. The tourism industry, specifically, has been most affected. Not only locally, but internationally as well.

For the first time in two years since the pandemic started, Tourism Malaysia Manila has conducted a hybrid seminar with a focus on Langkawi’s opening since November 15. Langkawi International Travel Bubble has been in effect since the mentioned date with standard operating procedures to operate.

The hybrid seminar was held at Citadines Bay City Manila on November 24, 2021 with guests from Tourism Malaysia Manila, Malaysia Airlines Philippines, Mega Water Sports (Langkawi), Bayview Hotel Langkawi, Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa (Langkawi), together with the travel organizations and operators in the Philippines as well as media partners and industry friends.

Tourism in Langkawi Overview

Prior to the pandemic, Langkawi is home to thousands of travelers from across the globe. Rich in history, natural landscapes, and island paradise, Langkawi is one of the go-to places for most international and local travelers.

Each year, over 2.5 million visitors visit Langkawi. Due to its breathtaking natural scenery and landscapes, Langkawi has become more famous because of its local touch of cultural heritage. The simply amazing aquamarine life and its unique geographical location have given the islands an edge over others to become a great tourist destination in Malaysia.

SOPs in Entering Langkawi

Director Yahya presented the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all tourists entering Malaysia which includes the following procedures:

• Required testing prior to departure – a negative COVID-19 RT PCR swab test is required for all countries within 72 hours before arrival in Malaysia.
• Required testing upon arrival – Malaysia-bound passengers will undergo an addition swab test upon arrival in KLIA.
• Mandatory 7 or 10 days home quarantine (to apply 7 to 10 days prior to traveling to Malaysia)
• Quarantine in hospitals designated by the Ministry of Health (if tested positive)

Note: If you are to travel outside Langkawi from Langkawi, you also need to present an RT-PCR Negative test result prior to leaving the island.

Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines presented direct flights from Manila to Langkawi and v.v, as well as the perks of becoming a registered member in Enrich, the Malaysia Airlines Rewards Program.

Mega Water Sports

Ms. Sharmini Violet presented the tours and watersports being offered for tourists in Langkawi. Mega Water Sports is one of the travel tour companies recognized by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.

Note: You can only do tours in Malaysia with registered and accredited tour companies (as far as the pandemic is still concerned).
